Response: "October Sky"

Today in class, we all watched the intriguing movie, "October Sky", which was indeed very enjoyable. When Sputnik, the first Russian shuttle that was launched into space, everyone was chatting all about it. When the main character, Homer, sees this magnificent sight with his eyes, it inspires him to build a rocket. Homer shows confidence and determination about completing this task. On the other hand, Homer's dad didn't allow that at all, until the very end. Homer was mistaken to cause a forest fire and the immense injury of his own dad. Also, it wasn't only him that could do it, he had help from his other friends, like Quince. Quince definitely perseveres, he also wants to successfully build a rocket. To accomplish that, the friends tried their best. In addition, there was trust between the friends so that they would achieve such an impossible goal at the time. When the rocket was finally launched correctly after numerous attempts, it was a sight that the people would never forget. This movie includes many character aspects for each of the characters in the story. The movie, "October Sky" also had dozens of facts that were connected to Earth Science. For example, Homer's dad worked in the coal mines. Those coal mines can earn your money, but they risk lives every second; very dangerous. Coal mines have already killed countless of people. Also, when building the mini rocket, the nozzle part of it balances out everything so that the rocket would soar sky high with ease. You will need lab safety to test many attempts to successfully launch a rocket. Lastly, the it is hazardous to try to fly a rocket without the correct materials/supplies, just like Homer's attempt #1. As you now can see, "October Sky" was a movie that included sofisticated character details and many connections to Earth Science. Overall, this proves that you can achieve any goal in your life if you have self-confidence, respect, and the responsibility to do so.
