Continental Airlines Status (Current Events)

We know Continental Airlines as a great service for flights most of the times we hear it. Well, believe it or not, that company has its ups and downs lately. You could consider it as somewhat a good moment or bad moment in the first month of 2009.
It happened on the 29th, Continental Airlines reduced the fares of the tickets, not by much, but by a little bit. Some reports and records say that the price of the tickets are so far the lowest during this decade. From an article, "The report said due to declining demand for air travel. Continental, the top carrier at Newark Liberty International Airport, is offering fares as low as $760 round trip to Hong Kong and $474 to Zurich, Switzerland". Also, if you're a skier or someone who likes to ski, you could book a four-day trip to Denver from Newark with an airfare of $238, even without a weekend layover. In my own opinion, it's an unimaginable deal that would be like a deal in a lifetime right now, referring to the harsh economy. Amazingly, numerous people started flying with Continental Airlines. On the other hand, this company has just lost a whopping and unforgettable amount of money.
Second, Continental Airlines posts that they have lost 266 million dollars, in the fourth quarter. Why? Well, from an article, "Houston-based airline, which has a major hub in Newark, lost $2.33 per share, compared with a loss of $32 million, or 33 cents per share, a year ago." I think that that is an amount that would be almost impossible to recover. In addition, analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters expected a loss of 89 cents per share. After this, countless chiefs and executive officers began discussing how and what they should do next to this immense outcome. Furthermore, another reason was how the tremendous expense of fuel it had costed those couple months for numerous flights.
In conclusion, Continental Airlines has done good to Newark, but had to face some consequences out of the deed that severely harmed the enormous company.
